Maintain Your Ride

September 30th, 2010

Keep your paint in great shape by selecting advanced, modern car washes.

The longer you own your car, the more likely you are to have encountered them, hiding just below the surface and waiting to make their presence known as soon as they are hit by the bright rays of the sun––swirl marks in your automobile’s finish. Especially if you own a dark-colored car, these nefarious paint defects mysteriously appear on almost every vehicle out there and can be as difficult to remove as they are disheartening to look at.

If you do manage to get rid of the swirls in your paint, either through a generous application of polish and elbow grease or a visit to your local car dealership’s detail bay, you might be wondering as to the best way to keep these paint demons from ever infesting your vehicle’s smooth veneer, when time is of the essence and a hand-wash isn’t feasible.

Most of us still have the vision of entering a car wash from the back seat of our parents’ cars, where a rotating bristle brush scrubbed the car’s finish. But modern, automatic car washes are significantly different. “Damaging brushes are virtually extinct from the professional vehicle car industry,” says Eric Wulf, Executive Director and CEO of the International Carwash Association. “Advances in soft cloth and foam type materials, not to mention advances in equipment and chemicals, have made damage to vehicle finishes no longer a concern at “soft touch” car washes.”

The second advantage of finding a car wash that’s been upgraded to modern standards is that they are, according to Wulf, “the most environmentally responsible option for washing a vehicle.” Water bans seem to be as frequent as cookouts and baseball games during the summer, so you may actually be facing a fine if you drag your hose and bucket out of the garage for a hand wash. The second environmental issue for hand washing is that the water and detergent used for washing is generally discharged to a storm sewer, which has direct impact on waterways at the end of the stream.

“Car washes must discharge rinse water to treatment prior to being released to rivers and streams,” says Eric Wulf. The International Carwash Association also manages a program called WaterSaverstm that recognizes professional carwashes that reclaims and recycles its water for future wash cycles and then discharges its effluent to a sanitary sewer or leach field. Think of it as an EnergySTAR program for clean cars.

Of course, when time permits, hand washing your car can be beneficial and therapeutic. All it takes is a sheepskin mitt, a bucket of sudsy water and a shammy for drying things off when you’re all done. The next best thing is to head to your local car dealership for a full hand wash. Dealer personnel will take the same care you would in making sure your car is as clean and beautiful as can be, and you can be sure they’ll keep anything with bristles far, far away from your paint.

But when time is tight, or when the snow and salt of winter roads requires much more frequent washings, don’t county out the soft touch or touch-free carwash. These modern machines replace the rotating bristles with high-pressure jets of special detergents, soft cloths and water, and do a great job of cleaning the car without harming paint, chrome, plastic or rubber.

2011 Hyundai Design Is Sharp And Sophisticated

    Hyundai Exterior

The 2011 Hyundai design is getting all kinds of press these days, and it’s well deserved. The exterior of the Hyundai Sonata, for example, has the curves and luxury appeal that gives Mercedes owners a reason to do a doubletake as they pass one.

The Exterior design really became the talk of the town when Hyundai did their Super Bowl commercial which brought attention to the fact they used a higher quality paint than Mecerdes-Benz.

    Sophistication

As Hyundai has been growing at a fast clip, perhaps due to the cost consciousness of the buyer who doesn’t want to forgo luxury to save money.

This sophistication is further proof that if you design a high quality product, and do so within the price range which opens the doors to a larger buying pool, then you’d likely be making some very happy customers.

    Exterior Appeal

Why is the exterior so appealing with these new Hyundai’s and who’s next to go after this strategy. The exterior lines of a car are typically either more squared off or they flow as if you could actually see the wind curling off as it drives down the street. To create such a visually stunning design, you have to commit to thinking outside the box, and what the general public thinks you are made of.

    Hyundai Overall Design

Hyundai is certainly making some very serious steps in becoming a major player here in the US as many buyers are in love with not only the design and the price, but of the overall direction of the company. Hyundai seems to be doing what others have fell short in doing and the results are speaking for themselves.

    The 2010 GMC Acadia Borrows

    August 27th, 2010

Acadia’s outstanding people-moving skills combine with class-leading fuel economy and handling.

There is a definite sweet spot when it comes to finding a vehicle that will handle a huge load of both passengers and cargo. While some prefer the rugged ride and brutal power of a full-size SUV, and others are satisfied with the anonymity of a minivan, there is a strong contingent of drivers who are looking for a happy medium – a people mover with the manners of a sedan that can still get the job done. For this select class, GMC has built the 2010 Acadia full-size crossover.

The 2010 GMC Acadia (MSRP $31,740) breaks the mold when it comes to crossover styling. Its bold dimensions suggest the same strength of purpose associated with GMC’s acclaimed line of truck-based SUVs. However, a closer look reveals that while the Acadia shares the same long, flat roofline and generous ride height afforded its body-on-frame siblings, care has been taken to separate the crossover visually from a standard sport utility vehicle. Details such as a sloped grille and quad exhaust tips tucked snugly under the Acadia’s rear bumper add definite car-like touches to the model’s overall design.

This sedan-inspired feel continues behind the wheel of the GMC Acadia. Turning into a corner, the benefits of the crossover’s unibody design over that of a traditional SUV are instantly recognizable, as the Acadia handles like a vehicle half its size. This predictability and smoothness translates into the type of comfortable ride that few would expect from such a capable family hauler. The Acadia derives its motivation from a standard 3.6-liter Spark Ignition Direct Injection (SIDI) V6 engine, which has been tuned to provide 288 hp and 270 lb/ft of torque. Front-wheel drive and an electronically controlled six-speed automatic transmission are also included in the base edition of the crossover, or buyers can select available all-wheel drive.

Acadia’s towing capacity is impressive with a maximum rating of 5,200 pounds adding an extra dimension of practicality. In terms of fuel economy, both models boast excellent numbers with the front-wheel drive Acadia showing 17 mpg city and 24 mpg highway, and the all-wheel drive model dropping only a single mile per gallon respectively. These numbers put the GMC Acadia at the head of its class when compared against any SUV with the same passenger capacity.

Just how many friends and family members can you fit into the 2010 GMC Acadia? The surprising answer is eight, placing the crossover in elite utility vehicle company and matching the interior accommodations offered by any minivan on the market. Three rows of seating ensure that no one will ever be left behind when planning a trip in the Acadia, and special care has also been taken to ensure there is a generous amount of room available for any luggage that might be coming along for the ride. Even with a full passenger complement, it is still possible to stuff 24 cubic feet of gear between the back of the third row and the vehicle’s liftgate. Not only that, should the need arise, all seating behind the driver can be folded down to free up an astounding 116.9 cubic feet of space, suitable for hauling any number of oversize or bulky items.

There are also a number of great ways to dress up the already well-appointed interior of the GMC Acadia, as well as add an extra degree of functionality and fun to the overall experience offered by the crossover. An optional Dual SkyScape sunroof adds two glass panels to the vehicle’s roof with the front panel capable of sliding or tilting open to let in fresh air, as well as sun- or moonlight. In addition to its standard free year of OnStar’s Directions and Connections service and three free months of XM Satellite Radio and XM NavTraffic™, Acadia offers a DVD-based touch-screen navigation system that includes a Bose 5.1 Surround audio system, as well as a DVD entertainment feature for rear-seat passengers. Further adding to Acadia’s appeal is the available backup camera that integrates its video feed directly into the navigation system’s LCD screen, helping to make reversing the crossover a simple and worry-free process.

The 2010 GMC Acadia is a full-size crossover that offers the pumped-up seating and cargo capacity of an SUV while maintaining the great handling and fuel economy of a sedan. It delivers luxury, convenience, security and unmatched utility, all backed by a five-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty that can’t be beat.

2011 Subaru WRX Goes With A Wider Stance

    August 24th, 2010

The Subaru WRX, a turbocharged version of the Subaru Impreza, is engineered with rally car technology and implements some significant design changes in 2011.

The WRX has changed its design to widen the stance of the vehicle making it so much more stable and agile through the turns, this new style gives the WRX a much broader looking and more aggressive stance.

The 2011 WRX model changes are more aggressive with new ground effects in an attempt to make it look more like it’s bigger brother the WRX STI. The most notable being the front quarter panel slope, the front grill and the bulging fenders which gave the rear of the vehicle a wider track and a more solid looking performance vehicle.

This more aggressive styling gives the WRX more of a sense of power and high performance than it had in the past. The previous year’s models seemed a bit bland despite their turbocharged engine accolades. For those who may not like the flashy STI look, this new WRX is sophisticated enough to look powerful and at the same time appropriate for the more conservative owner.

The Subaru WRX is at heart, a rally car, so trying to disguise its true identity is tough to do. This new design will likely enhance the drivers perception of performance and reassure it was the look of something much more capable of appealing to the enthusiast.

In addition, there’s a huge aftermarket for these vehicles allows people to do all sorts of modifications whether it be performance related or appearance. The WRX seems to capture the basics quite well and leaves the rest to the imagination of the new owner.
